Types of DNA Paternity Tests
1. Legal Paternity Test: This type of test is required for legal matters such as child custody, child support, and inheritance claims. It must be conducted by an accredited lab following strict chain-of-custody procedures.
2. At-Home Paternity Test: This test allows individuals to collect DNA samples themselves using a kit and then send them to a laboratory for analysis. Although it provides accurate results, it is not legally admissible.
3. Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test: This test is performed before the child is born and requires a blood sample from the mother and a cheek swab from the alleged father. It is highly accurate but more expensive than standard paternity tests.
